Classic City Kiwanis presents $1000 Scholarship to Dion Giles

The Classic City Kiwanis Club recently awarded a $1000 “Ted Riegel Kiwanis Club Scholarship” to Mr. Dion Giles as the most outstanding student-athlete who participated in a sport at Clarke Central High School. His name will also be displayed on a plaque at the school.

In 2004, Classic City Kiwanis created the “Ted Riegel Kiwanis Club Scholarship” in memory of the late Dr. Theodore Riegel, who was an active member of their club for more than 20 years. To qualify for this award, candidates were recommended by their coaches. These Seniors must have lettered in their respective sports, and they had to be already accepted to a 4-Year College, or a Junior College, the following Fall semester where they will continue to participate in their sport.

“Mr. Giles had been an outstanding student-athlete throughout his career at Clarke Central, “ stated Bob Turner, scholarship award chairman. “He was a 4-year Letter-Winner in Track, a 3-year starter in Wrestling, and a 3-year starter in Football.  He was selected as the most Outstanding Defensive Player on last year’s Football team, and selected as the National Football Foundation Student-Athlete of the Month in October, 2007.  He will be attending Shorter College this Fall to play football.”
